Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans today announced he has appointed Jesús Reyes, A.M., A.C.S.W., L.C.S.W., as Acting Chief Probation Officer of the Circuit Court of Cook County’s Adult Probation Department effective immediately. Mr. Reyes currently is the Director of the Circuit Court’s Social Service Department, the court’s probation department for misdemeanor defendants, and will continue to serve in that position.

Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans and First Municipal District Presiding Judge E. Kenneth Wright, Jr. announced the court will offer free legal advice, information, and referrals to low income pro se litigants appearing in the Supplementary Proceedings and Miscellaneous Remedies Section of the First Municipal District, informally known as collection court, beginning September 12, 2005.

Chief Cook County Judge Timothy C. Evans and Sixth Municipal District Presiding Judge Ronald C. Riley said the court will hold a graduation ceremony for 13 drug offenders on Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at 2 p.m. to honor their completion of the Circuit Court of Cook County’s Drug Treatment Court Program. The ceremony will take place in the Sixth Municipal District Court Facility, 16501 South Kedzie Parkway, Markham, Illinois, in the Jury Assembly Room on the second level.

Chief Cook County Judge Timothy C. Evans and Law Division Presiding Judge William D. Maddux announced the court has launched a pilot program in four Law Division courtrooms to test the use of video teleconference technology to allow live remote testimony from witnesses. The program was created in response to requests from attorneys seeking to eliminate the need for some witnesses to be physically present in the courtroom.

Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans announced the Annual Circuit of Cook County Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Courthouse Tour will take place on Wednesday, May 25, 2005, in the Richard J. Daley Center at 50 West Washington Street in Chicago. Co-sponsoring the tour are the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Chicago Area, the Chinese American Bar Association, the Filipino-American Bar Association, the Indian American Bar Association and the Korean American Bar Association.

Circuit Court of Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans announced the reassignment of three judges from the First Municipal District to the Chancery Division in preparation for the opening a new combined Mortgage Foreclosure/Mechanics Lien Section in the court’s Chancery Division.

The transfers of Judge Paul A. Karkula, Judge Carolyn Quinn, and Judge Jesse G. Reyes from the First Municipal District to the Chancery Division are effective today.

Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans announced the Annual Circuit Court of Cook County Black History Month Courthouse Tours of the Richard J. Daley Center, 50 West Washington Street, will again be held on nine (9) days to accommodate increasing public response. Tours will be offered daily beginning on Monday, February 14, 2005, through Friday, February 18, 2005, and the following week from Tuesday, February 22, 2005, through Friday, February 25, 2005.
