Press Release |

Statement by Chief Cook County Judge Timothy C. Evans in support of the Men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated Chicago Chapter’s “Alpha Men Meet and Take Back 79th Street” Anti-Violence Rally on November 21, 2015

“I am pleased to support the members of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated for sponsoring the Peace March and Anti-Violence Rally to be held in Chicago on November 21, 2015, at 1 p.m. on 79th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue.

“The husbands, fathers, business, religious, educational and community leaders who make up Alpha are to be commended for their efforts to end the violence that continues to threaten our neighborhoods.

“All of us need to come together for a full commitment to justice to end any and all miscarriages of justice in our criminal justice system, end black-on-black crime, and restore state funding for crime prevention programs and initiatives.  Restorative justice is about working in a collaborative and positive way, and this anti-violence effort demonstrates a courageous commitment to take the lead and make a difference.

“I am proud of the members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity because together, they form a beacon of light for our young men, showing them that there is another and far better way to live that eschews gangs, guns, drugs, and incarceration.

“I want to thank all the marchers who join in tomorrow, for their participation and for helping to support the men of Alpha in proving that in the campaign against violence, we are, indeed, community-strong.”
