Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans today announced the first annual Circuit Court of Cook County Polish Heritage Month Courthouse Tour will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2002, in the Richard J. Daley Center at 50 West Washington Street in Chicago. Joining the court in sponsoring the tour is the Advocates Society, The Association of Polish-American Attorneys.
"I am delighted to announce that the Circuit Court of Cook County is expanding its popular Community Heritage Month Courthouse Tour Series with the initiation of the First Annual Polish Heritage Month Courthouse Tour," said Chief Judge Evans. "The series is a key part of the court's outreach efforts to improve community access to the court system."
The tours are designed to offer the public a sense of the day-to-day operations of the nation's largest unified court system. Highlights of the tour include a visit to the Jury Assembly Room, a visit to a courtroom to observe a trial in progress, and a meeting with a judge of the Circuit Court for an informal presentation. Tour participants will receive a copy of the court's information guide in both English and Polish. The guide outlines the structure of the Circuit Court of Cook County, explains the basics of trial proceedings, and includes a directory of court and county services.
The Polish American Heritage Month Courthouse Tour joins the court's year-round Community Heritage Month Courthouse Tour series which combines public education activities with national and local observances marking racial and ethnic diversity. Tours are also held during Arab Heritage Month, Asian Pacific Heritage Month, Black History Month, Italian Heritage Month, and on Puerto Rican Heritage Day. The tours have been attended by hundreds of Cook County residents.
Individuals and groups planning on attending the Circuit Court of Cook County Polish Heritage Month Courthouse Tour may contact the Circuit Court Public Affairs Office at (312) 603-1927 on or before October 25, 2002. Reservations are recommended. The tour will depart at 10:00 a.m. from the Daley Center's west lobby located on the Randolph and Clark Streets side.
