Circuit Court of Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans honored four Chicago public high school students who won individual awards at the 2003 City Wide Mock Trial Competition on June 4, 2003.
The individual award winners, Anisa Figi, a senior at Noble Street Charter High School; Raven Ramclam, a senior at Lane Tech High School; Montriece Wade, a junior at Hirsch Metropolitan High School; and Weronika Wisniewski, a senior at Hubbard High School, each received a paid summer internship in the Office of the Chief Judge.
The Chicago Coalition for Law-Related Education, which is composed of the Circuit Court of Cook County; the Chicago Bar Association; Sidley Austin Brown & Wood; and the Chicago Board of Education, sponsored the two-month legal skills competition at the Richard J. Daley Center. The four hundred and sixty students representing twenty-four Chicago public high schools debated the merits of Sherman v. Archer, a fictitious legal case. Local attorneys, employees from Sidley Austin Brown & Wood and faculty members assisted the students, and twenty-four Cook County judges volunteered to preside over the three-round competition.
In the team competition, held on May 21, 2003, George Henry Corliss High School, Hirsch Metropolitan High School, Hubbard High School and Roger C. Sullivan High School received team awards.
The 2003 City Wide Mock Trial Competition is the twentieth annual competition. The purpose of the event is to familiarize Chicago public high school students with the law and the court system.
