Circuit Court of Cook County Executive Committee Action on Judge Cynthia Brim

Circuit Court of Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans announced the Executive Committee of the Circuit Court of Cook County today removed Circuit Judge Cynthia Brim from all judicial duties until further order of court, after making the following findings:

  1. Judge Brim has been formally charged with the commission of a crime which reflects adversely upon her fitness to serve.
  2. Allegations of inappropriate conduct by Judge Brim have been brought to the attention of the Committee which tend to indicate there may be the threat of injury to the public, the judicial branch of government or the orderly administration of justice.
  3. There is reasonable cause to believe that a medical examination may reveal that Judge Brim presently is unable to perform her judicial duties which could result in serious injury to the public or impede the orderly administration of justice.

The Executive Committee also has denied Judge Brim unrestricted access to all court facilities. In the event she has court business, she will be escorted by court security.

Judge Brim was first elected a circuit judge in 1994 and has been assigned to the Sixth Municipal District in the Markham courthouse since 2010. She was admitted to the bar in 1983 and worked as an assistant Illinois attorney general in Chicago before joining the bench.
