Statement by Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans

Press Release |

In light of a request issued yesterday, September 5, 2002, by Illinois' next Supreme Court Chief Justice, Honorable Mary Ann G. McMorrow, the Circuit Court of Cook County will amend its previously announced plan to remember the thousands of Americans who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

We will continue with our original plan to observe a moment of silence in courtrooms and throughout court facilities on September 11, 2002, at 9:28 a.m., the approximate Chicago time the attacks concluded, in concurrence with the United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois. In addition pursuant to Justice McMorrow's request, all proceedings will again halt at 12:00 noon for three minutes of silent reflection.

I will notify Sheriff Michael F. Sheahan and Clerk of the Circuit Court Dorothy Brown to advise their employees of the court's revised intentions.
