Statement by Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans

Press Release |

It is appropriate that the Circuit Court of Cook County honor the memory of the thousands of Americans who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

I have directed judges and all court personnel to observe a moment of silence in courtrooms and throughout court facilities on September 11, 2002, at 9:28 a.m., the approximate Chicago time the attacks concluded. It is fitting that the Circuit Court take up a solemn pause in concurrence with the United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois which will likewise observe a moment of silence at that time in honor of our fallen Americans.

I have asked Sheriff Michael F. Sheahan and Clerk of the Circuit Court Dorothy Brown to advise their employees of the court's intentions. I have also requested that the United States flag be flown at half staff on the Daley Center Plaza that day.
