Overview
Pursuant to Cook County Circuit Court General Order 1.2.1(i) (eff. Sept. 15, 2017), the Pretrial Division conducts the initial proceedings in various criminal cases, as listed below, and is in session every day of the year, including weekends and court holidays. On weekdays, the Pretrial Division conducts first appearances in all criminal (misdemeanor and felony) cases filed in the 1st Municipal District (city of Chicago), except felony cases resulting from grand jury action. On weekends and holidays, the Pretrial Division conducts the initial appearance hearings in all criminal cases.

Case Types
The Pretrial Division conducts initial appearance hearings in criminal cases for non-Domestic Violence City of Chicago misdemeanor and felony to determine conditions of release or denial of pretrial release.
The division also runs initial appearance calls for sex offenses, offenses involving a death, and escape.
The Division hears all City and countywide extradition proceedings for out of state fugitive warrants and intrastate out of county warrants.
On weekends and holidays the division conducts initial appearance hearings for all countywide misdemeanors and felonies including domestic violence cases and all warrants.

The library is open to attorneys and the public in Room 4D00 in the Leighton Criminal Court Building, from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
